When you think of glass, most people come up with the glass you use for holding drinks, food, being brittle, fragile, a vase, transparent, and not really something connected to art of all things.

If you look into the search engine for Theories of Glass formation, like www.howstuffworks.com and others, you will be amazed to know that glass is not as simple as just plain Glass! Anyone interested in the technical side of the formation of glass and all that, I will leave you to your own research. For now, I would like to draw your attention to the art side of the picture.

Since glass prior to it solidification is a very flexible material to work with, many artists begin to manipulate glass into various kinds of l'object desire! One very familiar item is the play of colours within the glass by means of glass blowing to create Vase, Accessories, Fruit trays, Tumblers and Wine glass, Pendants and Earrings, Contemporary Artifacts, Paperweights, Handles, and so on.

I came across this place called Patterson Glassworks, where you can visit for a glass blowing demonstration and even get a group together to experience making paperweights and so forth.

Whether you want to keep glass as just a practical everyday object or go beyond the realm of your imagination, I think glass is a fascinating material to work with and admire.

Your scrapbook

We all have piles of photos from happy occasions over the years stacked in the original photo envelope from the developers. More than often, we will be relocating these piles from one drawer to the next when we try to "organize" our storage space???

Alright, how about trying to thin down the pile by spending just half an hour a day to go through them and select the highlights, noting the date or just the event and year. Put them in separate titled envelopes. When the photos have been sorted, then spend some time shopping for nice archive folders and scrapbooking material one theme at a time.

By the end of the year, you will probably be able to enjoy going through these lovely scrapbooks of happy memories with your loved ones.

The Art of Embroidery

When we talk about embroidery, we might automatically refer it to a favourite pass time for women in general. This artform dated back to the 14th century and beyond and many Master embroiderer are men. We have the beautiful embroideries of China, and speading out to Japan, Korea, and other places, like England, Italy, and so forth. There are many types of stitches and techniques in embroidery such as the Algerian eye stitch, arrowhead, back, blanket, braid, bullion, buttonhole, cast, chain, chinese knot, colonial knot, combination stitch, coral, couching, cretan, cross, crow's foot, cutwork, Danish knot, detached chain, and oh so many more.

As for the Oriental embroidery artform, silk is often the favourite material to use for fairly fine needlework. I would like to recommend the book - Painting with a Needle which talks about various types and skills in embroidery, and the illustrations are fantastic.

Welcome to DesignBubbles - The Good Idea Team

An eclectic mix of objects, you never know what you will find!

A handmade original by Kerry.
